Europe went into the final day of the 43rd Ryder Cup needing the miracle of all miracles to even retain the trophy.
After another bruising day on the course at Whistling Straits the Americans needed just 3.5 points from a possible 12 to reclaim the trophy from Europe, who needed nine.
Rory McIlroy got them off to a good start but it was ultimately a crushing victory for the home side.
