Liverpool moved level on points with Manchester United in the Premier League table after beating West Ham on Saturday. Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister had the reigning Premier League champions cruising at half-time, with all three goals coming via a set-piece as West Ham’s weakness was brutally exposed.
Tomas Soucek pulled one back early in the second half in what proved to be the first of four shared between the two sides, although Axel Disasi’s unfortunate own goal ultimately put the game out of the Hammers’ reach. Liverpool had been dealt a blow in their attempt to move level on points with rivals Manchester United in the table with Florian Wirtz ruled out through injury having not recovered from the knock that forced him to pull out of the starting line-up last weekend.
