Nigeria were held to a 2-2 draw by Jordan in an entertaining international friendly at the Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya, Turkey on Tuesday. The Super Eagles, out of World Cup qualifying contention after their defeat by the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African play-offs, were playing their second match since the Africa Cup of Nations, where they finished third.
Here, they were without star striker Victor Osimhen, who is recovering from a broken right forearm. Akor Adams started up top in his place, but saw his goal chalked off in the first half. Rennes’ Mousa Al-Taarami opened the scoring with a powerful free kick from range on 17 minutes to give Jordan a shock lead.
Moses Simon levelled eight minutes later with a left-footed drive, before left-back Emmanuel Fernandez slotted home unmarked at the far post to turn the game around before the break. Mohammad Al Daoud stepped off the bench to equalise 13 minutes from time, and there was a red card for Fulham’s Alex Iwobi in stoppage time, as he lashed out after being held by Amer Jamous, with the incident leading to a late melee.
