BA plane turns back for Heathrow four hours into nine-hour flight after fault

A British Airways plane had to turn back for Heathrow four hours into a long-haul flight following a fault.

Flight BA277 to Hyderabad, India, got as far as norther Turkey before the decision was made to return to the west London airport.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner left Heathrow at 4.10pm on Sunday and U-turned over Turkey at 8.25pm UK time.

It was due to land in India at 5.15am.

Aviation analyst Alex Macheras tweeted that the plane reportedly had a failed weather radar display.

A British Airways spokeswoman said: “This flight returned to London as a precaution following a technical fault. We are sorry for the delay to our customers journey.

“The safety and security of our customers and crew is always our top priority.”
