Just relaunched this month, Mirihi Island Resort gives winter sunseekers another reason to head to the Maldives archipelago in search of the pristine tropical landscapes of turquoise ocean and powder sand.
On the South Ari Atoll, 30 minutes by seaplane from Malé, the diminutive 37-villa resort — 350 metres long and 50 metres wide — offers typically Maldivian thatched roof overwater villas. The spa has been enlarged, a wine bar added, and there’s a new two-bedroom Overwater Suite with its own jetty set over the house reef.
The new look fuses Thai with Balinese elements in a resort that prides itself on not having televisions in rooms. Entertainment comes from the diving, and excursions in sailing boats and Dhonis (traditional Maldivian fishing boats).
