The 53-year-old RuPaul is the person you want at a party, not least for his sparkling anecdotes from disco-era Studio 54 and nights out with Kurt Cobain, Cher and Diana Ross (not all at once, but imagine!). In full, glittering drag she serves glamour and fierceness; as a nattily dressed man he comes across as calm, kind and devilishly sharp. And it makes genius television to show both sides. ‘Drag has everything to do with being a shape-shifter, and feeling free enough to try all the colours and not be limited by other people’s opinions,’ says Ru. As the show becomes a cult hit for those bored of Snordic Noir and outsleuthed by Sherlock, we can only hope some of its host’s fabulousness rubs off on Londoners. But, as Ru would say, ‘Don’t f*** it up.’
