The name Marie Kondo is synonymous with clearing the clutter from your life – but now the Japanese tidying guru has launched an online homeware store.

The website describes the items – which include robes, ‘room’ shoes, a matcha whisk and storage containers – as a ‘collection of items that spark joy for Marie and enhance your everyday routine’.

The range also includes everything from a $12 (£9) ‘Shiatsu stick’, to a $86 (£66) candle and a $200 (£154) tea container.

A statement from Kondo about the shop said: “The goal of tidying is to make room for meaningful objects, people and experiences. I can think of no greater happiness in life than being surrounded only by the things I love.”

The store has launched just months after Kondo announced a commercial partnership with Rakuten, Japan’s largest e-commerce site, in August. Kondo said in a statement at the time: “Partnering with Rakuten is an opportunity to expand my tidying work and connect with people not only in their homes, but also in their workplaces.”

The irony of Kondo selling homeware when she makes a living from decluttering wasn’t lost on social media users.

Twitter user @DaraFly said: “Marie Kondo has now opened a shop so you can reclutter your house.”

User @SamLaskaris added: “So now #mariekondo wants you to buy as much of her stuff as possible? #ironic.”
