While some of us call the doctor at the sign of something unusual in our health, not everyone is so good at coming forward – and when it’s left so late, it’s not always easy opening up about health issues.

Here to help is Katie Piper, presenting Channel 4’s Never Seen A Doctor.

As the title suggests, the series meets people who are struggling with their wellbeing but haven’t plucked up the courage to do something about it.

In Episode 1, Piper meets Leicestershire couple Janice and Greg who urgently need their teeth looking at, as well as Scottish resident Joanna who has a recurring case of psoriasis.

As well as being understanding about the participants’ fears, Piper helps to set them on the necessary paths to getting better – but it doesn’t always work out that way.

“The saddest thing is that somebody passed away during filming,” Piper admitted in an interview on Loose Women. “That was totally unexpected. Medically her heart just stopped beating.”

Still, it’s largely a positive series that will hopefully encourage those at home who have been avoiding the help that they need to go and seek treatment.
