Noel Fielding has denied that he found it difficult to bond with Paul Hollywood on the set of The Great British Bake Off.

A representative for the comedian has rubbished reports that the pair had “little in common” when they kicked off filming for the series debut on Channel 4.

“Noel has confided in pals that he and Paul weren’t instantly on the same page,” a source told The Sun.

“They’re chalk and cheese. Noel is offbeat, whereas Paul can be gruff and by-the- book. When they met, Noel realised how little they have in common.”

The source claimed that Hollywood had initially tried to find a connection through his love of cars.

“Paul is a total petrolhead, so to break the ice, he asked Noel if he likes cars. Noel told him he doesn’t drive,” they said.

“There were a few tumbleweed moments like that. There was never any tension but it wasn’t the love-in Paul had with Mel and Sue and Mary Berry.”

However, representatives for comedian Noel have now denied the rumours.

After the BBC lost a bidding war over the hit baking show, it was announced that it would be moving to Channel 4.

But with Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins and Berry all quitting over the channel change, a new judge and two new hosts were needed.

Fielding will present the show with QI’s Sandi Toksvig and Leith will join Hollywood as a judge.

The new series of the Great British Bake Off will air on Channel 4 later this year.
