Strictly Come Dancing 2015: Jeremy Vine sits atop a giant horse as fans praise ‘wacky’ tango on Twitter

The journalist was prasied by the judges for his cowboy inspired tango

Jeremy Vine may not be the best dancer technically – but he was the most entertaining after kicking off his dance atop a giant horse on Saturday night’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Vine, 50 – dressed in full cowboy get-up – opened his tango to Go West on the plastic animal, shouting “I’m back cause I wanna dance with you” to Karen Clifton.

Cheered on by his brother, comedian Tim Vine, he received a score of 21 – one of his highest in the BBC competition so far – with the judges mostly praising the performance.

Head judge Len Goodman compared him to Toy Story’s Woody, saying: “There’s always an anticipation when you come out. And there you are looking like Woody from Toy Story.

“It’s wild its wacky it’s fun and I always love watching.”

Craig Revel Horwood said watching Vine is “like playing the lotto – you never know where the limb will land” while Darcey Bussell said: “What’s fabulous is your determination and well done for keeping a straight face all the way through. There was great improvement in your top line. I will never get bored of watching you.”

Fans took to Twitter to express their delight - and confusion - at the routine.

But Bruno Tonioli disagreed.

He was booed heavily after criticising the journalist after describing the performance as a “glorious disaster” and joking that Vine's attempt at the tango was “how the west was lost”.

Carol Kirkwood found herself at the bottom of the leader board following her American Smooth which scored 17 points while Peter Andre took top spot with a scroe of 38 after an "absolutely exceptional" charleston to Do Your Thing.
