Strictly Come Dancing 2015: Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell is eighth celebrity to be unveiled

Irish singer Daniel O’Donnell has been unveiled as the eighth celebrity taking part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The country and folk star - who in 2012 became the first artist to have a different album in the British charts every year for 25 consecutive years - will waltz into the ballroom when the BBC talent show returns.

The news was announced on the official Twitter account for the show, which posted: “Irish singing sensation and #Strictly star Daniel O'Donnell has sold over 10 million albums!”

Speaking about his decision to join the show the 53-year-old said: “Earlier this year, I decided to take a short break from touring and told myself that I would only consider doing something if it was both different and exciting.

"Well ,what could be more exciting than Strictly Come Dancing? I love to dance and boy am I looking forward to getting started and being the best that I can be!”

O’Donnell will compete against Jeremy Vine, Kellie Bright, Ainsley Harriott, Georgia May Foote, Katie Derham, Carol Kirkwood and Peter Andre for the coveted glitterball trophy.
