Great Britain's Katy Marchant has won a bronze medal in the women's sprint at the Rio Olympics.

Marchant claimed bronze in her first ever Games by beating Elis Ligtlee 2-0 in the race for third.

A former heptathlete who trained under the guidance of Jessica Ennis-Hill's coach Toni Minichiello, Marchant was making her Olympic debut in Rio.

It was Minichiello who spotted her cycling potential, looking at her impressive power figures produced during Wattbike tests and recommended her to British Cycling.

Marchant had represented Great Britain in track and field at the 2012 World Junior Championships and was nothing more than a recreational cyclist.

But she impressed during a six-week trial period at the Manchester Velodrome, known as 'the medal factory'.
