Rob Roy is Spencer's Guineas tip

Bookmakers and punters seem to believe it's all over bar the shouting.

Frankie Dettori is hoping they are right, but the rejuvenated Jamie Spencer feels there is one colt who could pose a major threat to the hot favourite Dubawi in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket a week on Saturday.

Spencer, who seems to have recovered all his old dash since returning to Britain, has seen most of the British-trained Guineas contenders at first hand and also rode the majority of Aidan O'Brien's star colts before splitting with the Ballydoyle handler in February.

And the young Irishman feels that Sir Michael Stoute's Rob Roy is the one to shake up Dubawi, who remains as short as even money for Guineas glory after his smooth success in Godolphin's private trial in Dubai last week.

Spencer said: "I've ridden in those trials and they're serious workouts, so you have to be impressed with the way that Dubawi strode out to win it very easily.

"However, the horse I'd love to ride in the Guineas is Rob Roy. If he'd got rolling from two and a half out in the Craven Stakes last week I think he would have won decisively by a couple of lengths."

Some Dubai insiders have reported that Dettori feels Dubawi is potentially one of the best Godolphin have ever handled, but the Italian is keeping his cards close to his chest for the British media.

"We know we can beat the ones we have," he said. "We know he won his races last year, but what we don't know yet is whether he's good enough to beat the others."
