Ranieri is set to fly back to Rome tomorrow to attend his 92-year-old father's birthday before going on a short holiday with his wife.
Spurs have also held talks with former Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz but he is returning to Old Trafford as Sir Alex Ferguson's number two. Queiroz's only season in Madrid was a disappointment as he failed to win a trophy.
