Kate Richardson-Walsh is set to become England's most capped hockey player after equalling Karen Brown's record during Tuesday's 3-3 draw with Australia.

The six-goal thriller leaves the sides' six-games series level at 1-1 and the next encounter will be a memorable one for the Manchester-born 35-year-old.

Richardson-Walsh has been team captain since 2003 after being voted in by her teammates. She has spent 17 years with the national side and is in line to win her 356th cap later in the week.

The daughter of two PE teachers, Richardson-Walsh feels "lucky" to be in a position to do what shes loves and relishes her role as skipper as it gives her an opportunity to inspire the next generation.

However, she's not quite ready to hang up her stick even with the appearance record firmly in her sights.

Speaking after Tuesday's game she told BBC Sport: "It feels like we've been talking about it for a while so I can't wait to break the record.

"It'll be really nice to get there - a really huge honour."
