Former coach Billy Mims came back to haunt his old charges when his Leicester Riders team beat London Leopards 84-82 in the final of the National Basketball Cup at Sheffield Arena.
Mims oversaw an emotional last-gasp victory against the team that parted company with him last season - despite him having led them to three major trophies in two years - to add to the frustrating career of the man who replaced him, Bob Donewald.
Mims, who won back-to-back league titles, lifted the National Cup and reached the final of the Championship play-offs with the Leopards, described last night's result as the "sweet-est" of all his triumphs.
"Some 15 months ago, I did not have a job, but today I was given the chance to give the team which brought me back to life the first piece of silverware in their history - and against the team which stopped me from doing what I love," he said.
"So this was, no question about it, the sweetest of victories."
In a rousing finish, it was Mims' Riders who kept their composure against a more-talented Leopards side, who were so distraught by the defeat that they did not speak to the press afterwards.
