The 26-year-old Australian was told he might never play again after the third operation on his left knee within 14 months left him in a wheelchair.
But he said: 'Goran was in the final three times before he won it so I'm not going to give up. There are a lot of positive things I can take away and I'm definitely going to hold that trophy up before I retire. That's for sure.
'It's made me more determined. It's not easy watching your opponent lift up the trophy.'
