Good week, bad week

Manchester United
West Ham's hopes of beating United when 2-0 up were short-lived, as the Red Devils delivered a rousing riposte, scoring four goals - three of which came from Wayne Rooney.

"We played like champions," said Sir Alex Ferguson manager. "It was a real championship performance. I said to them at half-time, 'Look, goal difference doesn't matter now - you're getting something from this. The next goal wins the game'. That's why I put Ryan [Giggs] back to left-back to have a go and just attack," he added. "It paid dividends."

Aside from Rooney regrettably screaming invective at a camera, it was an excellent weekend for United, as rivals Arsenal and Chelsea both dropped points.

BAD WEEK

Wolves
Mick McCarthy tore into his defence following their abject display which saw Wolves lose 4-1 to Newcastle in their bid to avoid relegation. "The first one [by Kevin Nolan] was really poor," said the Wolves manager. "That changes the course [of the game], that changes the feeling. "It's a bad day in the office."

Arsenal
It seems Arsene Wenger is finally starting to crack. After his Gunners side failed to shoot down Blackburn, the cerebral Frenchman was unable to explain his team's deficiencies.

"We were flat and I don't know why," he said following Saturday's goalless draw. "It was frustrating to watch. We didn't have pace and direction."

Chelsea
Chelsea's hopeful pursuit of chasing down leaders Manchester United took a real blow as the Blues were stifled 1-1 by Stoke. Chelsea's manager, however, refused to give up the fight to finish first.

"We have to continue to do our best," Carlo Ancelotti said resiliently. "The gap [between Chelsea and United] was not easy before and now it is more difficult but we have to think game by game."

Liverpool
The Reds endured a weekend's haunting at the Hawthorns, as Liverpool's former manager Roy Hodgson guided West Brom to a 2-1 victory over Kenny Dalglish's men.

Chris Brunt's penalty for Albion separated the sides, after Brunt's previous spot-kick had equalised Martin Skrtel's goal.

Harlequins
Conor O'Shea, Harlequins' director of rugby, cut a figure of discontent following his side's 17-13 home defeat by Leicester.

After Quins' Joe Marler was dismissed for hitting Leicester's Marcos Ayerza, and both Will Skinner and Mark Lambert were sent to the sin-bin, anger emanated from O'Shea. "Does Joe feel hard-done by? I know I would be," fumed O' Shea. "[And] the ball was out of the scrum when Skinner took it yet got yellow carded."

Tottenham
Harry Redknapp must have felt slightly deflated after hearing the news that Alan Hutton may miss the rest of the season with a knee problem. The Scot's knock only extends Spurs' injury concerns.

Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Younes Kaboul are all sidelined while William Gallas is facing a race to be fit for tomorrow's Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid - in fact, the last men standing in their central-defensive ranks are Michael Dawson and Sebastien Bassong.
