Pat Eddery will end his remarkable riding career in the sunshine of Mauritius after accepting an invitation to take part in an International Jockeys' Challenge on 7 December.
The 11-times champion jockey has never ridden a winner there despite several visits but is keen to make amends before he moves into a new career running ownership syndicates.
"Finding the right moment to retire was always going to be difficult, but what better setting could there be to go out on," he said.
Meanwhile, there could be a new development in the ongoing row over mobile phones after Martin Cruddace, the solicitor for 110 riders who oppose the restrictions, offered a small olive branch to the Jockey Club.
Cruddace has modified the demands of the jockeys slightly and called for the appointment of an independent legal mediator to help reduce the risk of an expensive and highly damaging court action.
