The EFL have today released a statement condemning the violence that marred West Ham's victory over Chelsea in the EFL Cup last night.

Slaven Bilic's side edged past their London rivals courtesy of a 2-1 scoreline but supporters were involved in skirmishes inside the London Stadium.

Seven arrests have been made after the disturbances, which saw coins and seats thrown during the first derby game staged at West Ham's new home.

The FA have responded by launching an investigation into the crowd trouble and the EFL say they are working with both clubs - and the police - in an attempt identify culprits.

"We are currently liaising with both clubs, the Football Association and Metropolitan Police as they look to identify those involved and take appropriate and decisive action."

West Ham moved into their new Stratford base at the start of the season and have vowed to issue life bans to fans deemed to be responsible for the violence.

Chelsea have also released a statement: "The club is extremely disappointed to see disturbances at the end of tonight's game and we condemn such behaviour.

"I'm unable to comment further until tonight's incidents have been investigated properly."
