An optimistic post on Instagram linking Thomas Lemar with a move to Tottenham has been liked by one of his Monaco teammates.

A Tottenham fan posted a doctored image of Lemar, pictured in what is rumoured to be the club’s home kit for the forthcoming season with the message ‘welcome Lemar’.

That post has been subsequently liked by one of Lemar’s teammates, Djibril Sidibe.

Cue wild excitement from some Tottenham fans.

The 21-year-old French midfielder, who scored in Monaco’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham in the Champions League group stage clash at Wembley last season, and again in their home match at the Louis II Stadium, is one of Maurico Pochettino’s summer transfer targets.

But the hysteria of transfer season was not lost on some fans.

Reacting on Twitter, one Spurs supporter commented that Sidibe “probably thought it was funny that was someone was sad enough to go to all that effort”, while another said “only thing I'm taking from this is that jersey looks great...”
