Sam Allardyce has confirmed Crystal Palace are "very, very close" to signing Patrick van Aanholt from Sunderland.
The defender handed in a transfer request to force through a reunion with his former Black Cats manager, with a deal worth an initial £9million agreed between the two clubs.
Allardyce added the move would mark a breakthrough in negotiations after attempting to sign "20 or 30" players this month.
The transfer would mark Palace's second during the January window following Jeffrey Schlupp's £12m arrival from Premier League champions Leicester City.

Schlupp started Saturday's 3-0 home loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup, though was withdrawn on 75 minutes with a suspected hamstring problem.
Allardyce voiced concern over the injury, telling reporters after the game: "Losing [Schlupp] is a big blow, it's his hamstring. Looks like it'll be a while."
