Reiss Nelson has completed a season-long loan move to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim after signing a new contract with Arsenal.

Nelson, 18, becomes the latest young English talent to move to Germany where he has been given the number nine shirt at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

Standard Sport understands the England Under-19 international has signed a new four-year deal at the Emirates with an option of a fifth.

“Reiss is a talented young player and we are pleased that he has signed a new contract with us,” Gunners boss Unai Emery said.

“This move to Hoffenheim will give him the chance to get regular high-level competition in the Bundesliga and is an important step in his development.”

Nelson’s close friend Jadon Sancho has set the bar for young English talent in Germany, having left Manchester City to join Borussia Dortmund last summer. The 19-year-old is now a first-team regular at the Westfalenstadion.

Former Crystal Palace youngster Mandela Egbo made the move before Sancho, joining Borussia Monchengladbach where he made his senior debut last season.

Everton’s Ademola Lookman and West Ham’s Reece Oxford had successful spells in Germany last term with RB Leipzig and Gladbach respectively, having been unable to force their way into the first-team picture at parent clubs Everton and West Ham.

Keanan Bennetts also made the move earlier this summer, leaving Tottenham’s ranks to link up with Egbo at Gladbach.
