John Terry was shown a straight red card on his return to the Chelsea starting line-up on Sunday.

The defender was handed his first start since Chelsea's EFL Cup loss to West Ham against Peterborough United at Stamford Bridge, but lasted 65 minutes of the FA Cup third-round clash before being given his marching orders.

The 36-year-old's dismissal came with Chelsea leading the FA Cup third-round tie 3-0 and after he raced back to try and stop Lee Angol from racing clear toward goal.

After Terry took the striker out with his foul, referee Kevin Friend spent a few moments deliberating over the challenge before showing Terry a red card.

His dismissal allowed Peterborough to score a consolation goal five minutes later through Tom Nichols, who fired in Angol's cross.

But Pedro's second of the night restored Chelsea's three-goal advantage shortly after.
