Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed Atletico Madrid's transfer ban has put Alexandre Lacazette's future in doubt.
Lacazette, who scored 36 goals in 44 appearances last season, appeared set to complete a move to the Vicente Calderon this summer, having voiced a desire to join the Spanish side.
But Fifa confirmed on Wednesday that Atleti will remain under a transfer ban until January after the club was found guilty of signing under-age players.
Lacazette is also a target for Arsenal, whose hopes of signing the Frenchman have received a boost, and Aulas has confirmed the striker is in the middle of an uncertain situation.
“It’s good and bad news. It was, in financial terms, a very significant operation. Of course that has changed everything,” he said.
“We had given Alex the green light to go to Atletico, the club of his heart.
“I’ve not had his agent on the phone, nor him, as I’ve been in Cardiff, but I had said to Alexandre not to get too far ahead of himself, as there can always be disappointments in football.

“It brings into question the commitments made on both sides. We had made progress on possible solutions. We might have one extra striker next season.”
Standard Sport understands Arsenal are not put off by Lyon's £52.3m asking price for Lacazette, whom Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer off.
Kylian Mbappe remains the Gunners' primary target but will consider turning their attentions to Lacazette if they receive no encouragement in their pursuit of the Monaco striker.
