“It’s about having your own goals and targets to keep you going along the way.
“I felt I was close to going on a scoring a few more runs in South Africa and that will continue to be a bugbear until hopefully I can put that right this summer.”
Meanwhile, his club colleague Steven Finn is determined to win back his place in the Test team as fast bowler after a stress fracture of his foot.
“I’m looking forward to hopefully playing in the whites of England once again," he said.
“I have to perform well for Middlesex before I am given the chance to do that, but with four county games before the Sri Lanka series starts I hope to prove I am worthy of a place in the test team.
"And if I do that I hope to stay in the side for the summer."
