Thatcher, 32, had been training with Ipswich but has cut short his stint there to try and win a deal at Molineux.
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy currently has ex-Irish left-back Ian Harte also on trial at the club.
Wolves defender Lee Collins, 19, is joining Port Vale on a six month loan deal.
