Allen has spark that can ignite us, says Talbot

Stuart Talbot believes the managerial skills of Martin Allen hold the key to Brentford's survival in Division Two.

The 30-year-old, who was signed on a free transfer in February, is a veteran of relegation battles involving former clubs Rotherham and Port Vale and knows what it takes to avoid the drop.

Ahead of tomorrow's clash with fellow strugglers Grimsby, Talbot said: "The key is the management and how they handle pressure. The players take their lead from them. I didn't know Martin before he arrived, although I had come across him as a player.

"He's worked really hard and we have gone eight games unbeaten so he's done very well. But new managers always seem to inject confidence. I think he can only be judged properly over a longer period."

Brentford are three points clear of thirdbottom Grimsby and a win tomorrow will almost certainly guarantee their place in the division next season. The outlook for the club would then look rosy, according to Talbot, who has been impressed with the ability of many of his younger colleagues.

The midfielder said: "This is different from some of the other relegationthreatened sides I have played in because the club are in a false position."
