For fans of British television across Canada and the United States, the news that Vernon Kay has bought a £3 million house near his family home is drawing attention.
Celebrity split and new property
The couple revealed their separation in a bombshell announcement in May.
The move mirrors a pattern seen among North American TV personalities who also buy homes close to their children after a divorce.
In Canada and the United States, such purchases are often framed as a way to maintain stability for the family.
Tess Daly, 57, and Kay, 52, released a joint statement in May that shocked fans as they said they had made the decision to "separate amicably".
Since then, the BBC Radio 2 presenter has been living with his ex‑wife in their family home in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, with their daughters, Phoebe Elizabeth Kay, 22, and Amber Isabella Kay, 17.
Kay is reportedly keen to live close to Tess and their two daughters.
The The Sun has quoted sources as saying Kay is preparing to move to his new house, which has reportedly cost him £3 million and is located very close to the family home.
A source told the newspaper that the new property will mean "he can stay close to their girls, which is something important to both him and Tess".
He's having renovations done and will move out when the house is ready. Tess is supporting him with the move, they added.
It's going to be very strange for them after living together for over two decades, so they're both treating the situation with care and respect.
The couple's separation comes after 22 years of marriage.
Their bombshell statement read: "After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably. This has not been an easy choice, but it comes from a place of mutual understanding and a shared desire of what is best for both of us. We remain great friends and, most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority. There are no other parties involved in this decision. We kindly ask for privacy during this time as we navigate this transition together. We will not be making any further public comments. Tess and Vernon".
The couple remained living together after their announcement.
Background and past controversies
Last week, in light of the split, fans paid closer attention to an interview Kay did with The Times one month before the announcement as it appeared to hint that a "change" had occurred within his relationship with the former Strictly presenter.
Kay discussed watching his children grow up, now that his eldest daughter Phoebe was studying in New York.
"Now that Phoebe is 21 and Amber is nearly 17, our relationship with them is changing," he told the publication. "We talk about encouraging them to leave the nest and be independent but we don't really want them to. You have to learn to enter their world and that world has pitfalls that just didn't exist for us."
While Daly and Kay publicly claimed that their split was amicable, sources alleged that the marriage had broken down because Daly remained angry about her husband's 2010 "sexting" scandal involving former Page 3 model Rhian Sugden.
At the time, Kay admitted to sending explicit texts to around five women, going on to apologise to his two million listeners on Radio 1 for being "foolish and stupid".
The pair met at a BBC Christmas party while working as up and coming TV presenters for rival channels in 2001.
Kay proposed on Christmas Day 2002 at Daly's parents home, and the pair married the following September near his hometown of Bolton, just 20 miles from where Daly grew up in Stockport.
