Tony Adams has shared the heartwarming reason he sold his Cotswolds mansion to Liam Gallagher, months after the Oasis frontman purchased the property for £4.25 million.

Back in December, Gallagher, 53, bought the eight-bedroom house near Cirencester in Gloucestershire from Adams, with the Arsenal legend having initially listed the property at the beginning of 2025.

The country home has five acres of land including a swimming pool, tennis courts, stables and an additional two-bedroom cottage, with Adams and his wife Poppy Teacher having lived at the property for 25 years.

But Adams, 59, has now shared the reason for the sale, revealing in an interview that he and his wife are moving back to London so that Teacher, 52, can go back to university.

“This is a new era for us,” the Strictly Come Dancing star told The Daily Mail. “We’ve sold the house and are returning to London. My wife is going back to school.”

Teacher, who is descendent of a famous whisky making family, explained: “I told Tony I wanted to do early modern history and he said, ‘How do you monetise that?’ And I said, ’You don’t!’

“But I think he’s proud. He’s telling everyone I’m doing a PhD, but it’s a masters.”

The pair, who have been married for 22 years, are currently renting while searching for a property to buy in north London, Adams explained, adding: “We’re not going back to the Chelsea area where all the Blues are.”

Having previously been married to Jane Shea, with whom he shares three children, Adams met Teacher after he became sober in the wake of his struggles with alcoholism.

Adams and Teacher also have three children of their own; “I’ve brought up the children, but now I need to use my brain again. Tony and I want to have a London life, do things like go to galleries,” she said.

Gallagher brought Adams’ home in the village of Coates following the success of the Oasis reunion tour, having moved to neighbouring Stroud in 2024 and rented a mansion for £17,000 per month.

Upon purchasing Adams’ house, the Manchester native posted on X: “To all the BEAUTIFUL people from the cotswolds I come in peace you won’t even know I’m there I’m not like all those divvy celebrities who like to show off I’m LO FI as you were LG x.”

Last week, he told The Sun: “People round here mind their own business, and I mind mine. I’m not out every night, and I’m not doing anything dodgy.

”My neighbours have been lovely. One of them bakes us cakes, and if I’m in the pub they’ll buy me a drink.”
