Sixties art at the Tate

Digital channel BBC4 is teaming up with Tate Britain for a major exhibition and TV season dedicated to the Sixties.

It will combine big names in art, such as David Hockney and Bridget Riley, with forgotten figures from the decade to show how influential their work is on today's generation. The gallery will stage a major exhibition, Art And The Sixties: This Was Tomorrow, from 30 June until 26 September.

Tate Britain's exhibition will explore the major changes in art with work by Hockney, Riley, Richard Hamilton and Peter Blake, along with less famous names such as John Latham, Liliane Lijn and Gustav Metzger.

BBC 4's programmes include I Hate The Sixties which will allow those who blame the decade for today's ills to make their voice heard.

Another is Art And The Sixties with archive footage and rare interviews with those at the centre of the movement. The Truth About Sixties TV is a documentary about such shows as Miss World and The Black And White Minstrel Show.

BBC4 Controller Roly Keating said: "It is all about looking at where we are today through the prism of that most creative, turbulent and influential of decades."
