Revitalising combo

There's little doubt that drum'n'bass has been revitalised in recent years by an influx of international talent. The catalyst? DJ Marky, who first wowed audiences with a dizzying combination of effervescence and flair five years ago, and remains one of those select must-see DJs.

He will be making an extra-special effort tonight at In Rotation, the launch of his and production partner XRS's debut LP of the same name. It promises to take the sunshine samba'n'bass sound to new heights and also features an intriguing collaboration with Philly soulster Vikter Duplaix. The duo are joined by the man who discovered Marky, Bryan Gee, and super-charged soul maestro Marcus Intalex at a d'n'b night where - shock, horror - the DJs above play for two hours.

You can pretty much guarantee that if MTV are hosting a one-off party, both its line-up and production are going to be something special. And sure enough, the MTV Motomash brings a mind-bending range of live acts and DJs to Canvas on Saturday. The Live Room has the Psychonauts spinning twisted electro and lowslung disco, up-and-coming East London quartet Spektrum showcasing their justifiably hyped funk-disco-guitar sound and Darshan Jesrani with clicky, lo-fi house. In the Booty Room, Xfm's genre rebel Eddy Temple Morris does house, hip hop, rock, breaks and indie, and is joined by K7's Swayzak.

What do you do if you enjoy good dance music when you're past your mid-twenties? Go to grimy clubs where you're surrounded by gurning teenyboppers, or stay in and put your dancing shoes away forever? Well maybe neither, as the ever-inventive Groove Armada boys host their second Supper Club event tomorrow. It brings together the elements which make up a typical night out - drinking, dining and dancing - under one very fine roof (swanky members' joint The Cobden Club) for a civilised and sophisticated evening. And very well it works too: with bubbly preceding a blurry multiple-course meal with wine (tomorrow's theme is Best Of British) interspersed with cabaret. Then it's the dancing part, with Groove Armada's Tom Findlay and Off-Centre's Ross Clarke DJing.
