Minnie Driver has shared that she is “in shock” after experiencing a “really bad” car accident while on holiday in France.
Just days after documenting herself eating crêpes on the streets of Paris, The Good Will Hunting star, 56, posted a video from bed, where she was lying with a blue foam support around her neck.
There, she explained that she and her friend, fellow actor Ben Homewood, had been driving in rural France when another car drove through an intersection and their vehicle “T-boned” it.
“Paris update: is that I’m actually back in London,” she told the camera, as she lay next to her dog.
“I got into a really bad car accident a few days ago with my friend Ben. We somehow walked out of there – well, we didn’t walk out of it, we crawled out of it – but we did get out of it alive.
“To be very clear, it was not our fault. We were driving on a country road in the middle of France, and a car didn’t stop at an intersection and was going at speed, and we just T-boned it.”
Clarifying that she was “fine”, Driver explained that she’d sprained her neck in the accident, adding: “I’m really in shock and cry all the time, but I’m going to heal and the reason I’m not dead, honestly, is the car that we were driving… so that the entire car didn’t just concertina and crush us.”
Driver, who is mother to a 17-year-old son, joked that she wasn’t being paid to advertise the car, saying: “I’m Minnie Driver, pun intended, I need to celebrate the car that saved us. Because we’ve got families and people who love us, and I am so grateful to be alive.”
In the caption, she wrote: “My brain keeps replaying the crash which is very hard but seems to be a necessary part of processing. Weeping too, feels good and helpful.”
Driver’s followers flooded her with support following the “terrifying” ordeal, with one writing: “Reading this makes me think how precious life is and we should truly live it!”
Writing in agreement, another said: “I’m so glad that you’re OK and that you’re able to recover, rest and reflect. Life is short, and I love that you live your life to the fullest every day and share it with us.”
