Fresh on the scene

It sells itself as the hippest, hottest art prize around, but there is a dull predictability to this year's most hyped exhibit. Carey Young is one of nine artists to have been short-listed, and her 'work' is represented by a legally binding 'Non-Disclosure Agreement' that forbids the sponsor from revealing just what it is that she might have made. Also jostling for the £20,000 prize are digital, video and performance artists, interventionists, an art collective and a lone sculptor.

30/30 Vision

Since the Crafts Council's sought-after 'setting-up' grant was established, more than 1,200 have been awarded, providing a launch pad for a string of exciting emerging makers, many of whom have gone on to become established names. The work of 30 recipients is showcased here, indexing three decades of inspired craftsmanship and creativity.

Hospital: New Paintings By Alison Turnmull

For the past four years, this Colombian-born painter has been poring over architectural drawings for hospitals from different times and places, among them the Asklepia or 'dream hospital' of ancient Greece and a modern military hospital in the Philippines. These have become the blueprints for her latest meticulous series of canvases, whose fleshy oil paint is overlain with layered pencil drawings. The Beatles And Dylan

Paul Saltzman recently came across a cache of pictures he had lost. Back in 1968, he travelled to an Indian ashram to find himself and ended up finding the world's most famous music stars instead.
