Dance floor to ballet score for Pet Shop Boys

The Pet Shop Boys are moving from pop to ballet. The duo — Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe — today announced a major collaboration with Sadler's Wells.

Tennant and Lowe are teaming up with choreographer Javier De Frutos and Royal Ballet principal Ivan Putrov on an adaptation of a Hans Christian Andersen fairy story.

The Most Incredible Thing will open at Sadlers Wells next spring with a cast of 15 led by Putrov, who asked them to write him a score.

Tennant said: "We have written music for the club dancefloor so to write music for the ballet stage seemed a logical development."

The music will be played by an orchestra, not the duo.
