Zayn Malik and Niall Horan shared a tense handshake when they ran into each other at the American Music Awards.
The former One Direction band mates, who have not been seen publically together since Malik quit in March 2015, had a frosty encounter on Sunday night.
While walking past Malik in the auditorium, Horan graciously held out his hand to congratulate him on his New Artist of the Year award.
Malik took his hand but quickly dropped it, with neither making much eye contact or conversation.
The awkward encounter might have had something to do with the fact that Malik made a thinly-veiled comment about his former band while collecting his award.
Taking to the stage, the 23-year-old quipped: “Wow… this just has my name on it, right?”
He added: “It's been a crazy year. I can't thank the people who have been with me every day for the past year enough.
"To this very point, being stood on this stage is crazy.

Horan, who has recently launched his own solo career, was nominated in the same category as his former band mate.
