Star Wars premiere: Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher reunite to make history with The Force Awakens

Star Wars fans erupted into huge cheers as Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill were reunited at the world premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The trio - who first made history in the original George Lucas film nearly four decades ago - came together to celebrate the seventh episode in the lucrative franchise.

Ford, who plays Han Solo, posed alongside Fisher, who played his love interest Princess Leia - now general Leia.

Hamill (Luke Skywalker) arrived without a lightsaber in hand but showed he still knows how to use the force as he struck a series of poses for the cameras.

They were joined by their sidekicks, Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew and C-3PO star Anthony Daniels - who dressed his suit with a C-3PO broach - on a red carpet flanked by Stormtroopers.

New Star Wars actors and actresses also graced the red carpet at the TLC Chinese Theatre where the first installment premiered in 1977.

Daisy Ridley who plays Rey made a stunning entrance in a layered white dress while Lupita Nyong'o - who plays Maz Kanata - decided to bring the galaxy with her in a sparkling dress.

Finn actor John Boyega also made an appearance and sent fans into overdrive when he arrived in a purple Versace suit and one black leather glove leading some to speculate as to whether his character loses his hand like Luke Skywalker.
