She’s one of Hollywood’s biggest actresses – but Reese Witherspoon couldn’t master a Scottish accent.

The A-list star, 40, revealed that she once had to quit a film role after she tried and failed to get to grips with the accent.

Witherspoon let slip the revelation while promoting her new animated film, Sing, with Matthew McConaughey.

Speaking to Ross King about difficult accents she said: “Scottish is really hard. I don’t even want to talk about it. I tried to do the accent once and it was bad – I had to quit the movie.”

McConaughey asked: “You did? Over the accent?”

Witherspoon continued: “It’s not my finest moment. I don’t want to talk about that anymore.

“That just came out and I really wish it hadn't.”

Witherspoon voices a pig called Rosita, who has 25 piglets, in the new film which follows Buster Moon - a koala who hosts a singing contest.

Speaking about her role she said: “I thought it was a sweet character and sometimes we forget that mums have their own dreams and desires.

Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johanssen, John C.Reilly, Jennifer Saunders and Nick Kroll also lend their voices in the new film.
