Peter Kay has been pictured for the first time in a year as he stepped out for a tram tour in Blackpool.

The 45-year-old comedian, who cancelled his live tour due to “unforeseen family circumstances” in December, made a rare appearance as he hopped on board the Heritage Tram Tour.

Kay beamed ear to ear and looked in good spirits as he posed for a picture alongside the driver and conductor.

The tram company’s official Twitter account shared the sweet snap online as they joked about having a “celebrity passenger”.

The tweet read: “We do love a celebrity passenger on our tours, when we can't get one @PeterKay_co_uk will do instead! He kindly allowed a photo with the driver and conductor on Boat 600 this afternoon.”

Last year Kay delighted fans by making an appearance at a charity screening for his comedy series Car Share.

The event also took place in the seaside town and was held in aid of The Lily Foundation, which helps to improve the lives of children with mitochondrial disease.

A live audience gathered to watch the final episode of the British sitcom as well as an unscripted special.

The show, which wrapped in May last year, initially concluded with a cliff-hanger which saw Sian Gibson’s Kayleigh admit her true feelings to Kay’s character John.

The show was then revived after fans demanded a proper ending, and set up a petition to back the move, which gathered over 100,000 signatures.

The final episode was praised for its “perfect ending” which saw John and Kayleigh head off in the sunset together.
