Madonna was joined by her son David Banda for an impromptu tribute to the victims of the Paris attacks in the French Capital.

The singer, 57, visited the Place de la Republique with David, 10, and guitarist Monte Pittman after her Rebel Heart concert at the Bercy Arena where she wrapped herself in the French flag.

She told her French fans to join her at the site – which was used as a memorial to the victims of the November 13 atrocities – via Twitter.

She posted: “I’m singing some songs in place de la republique. Meet me there now #Paris . #rightnow #aftershow #rebelheartour.”

The crowd joined in with the show, which saw Madonna sing her hits including Like A Prayer as well as John Lennon's hit Imagine.

Speaking to the crowd she said: “We just want to sing a few songs about peace, just to spread love and joy, and to pay our honour and respect to the people who died almost four weeks ago.”

It is not the first time that the singer has paid tribute to the victims of the terrorist attack.

She broke down in tears and told fans in Stockholm that she had considered cancelling her show, but decided to go ahead as she wouldn’t let the attackers stop them “enjoying freedom.”

She spoke to the crowd for six minutes before asking fans to join her in a one minute silence.
