Lena Dunham has said she is “done” with having images of her body photoshopped.
Dunham’s comments come a week after she publicly called out Spanish publication, Tentaciones for photoshopping an image of her.
She later apologised after the magazine published an open letter stating they had not retouched the image.
But Dunham has now said “something snapped” as a result of the incident.
Dunham explained that she is “not done with getting my picture taken […]but done with allowing images that retouch and reconfigure”.
She wrote: “The gap between what I believe and what I allow to be done to my image has to close now. If that means no more fashion-magazine covers, so be it. I respect the people who create those magazines and the job they have to do. I thank them for letting me make a few appearances and for making me feel gorgeous along the way. But I bid farewell to an era when my body was fair game.”
Dunham went on to thank actresses Kate Winslet, Jamie Lee Curtis and Zendaya for speaking out against retouching before finishing: “This body is the only one I have. I love it for what it’s given me. I hate it for what it’s denied me,” she wrote. “And now, without further ado, I want to be able to pick my own thigh out of a lineup.”
