Kevin Clifton has told how being a part of Strictly Come Dancing doesn’t quite match the on-screen glamour that viewers see at home.

The professional dancer opened up in a behind-the-scenes look at the glitzy show as he revealed the realities of long training days in “searing heat” and early to bed.

Speaking on Instagram the 35-year-old said: “If you're expecting the real life of a Strictly pro to be glamorous this is what actually happens.

“We've all been busting our a**** today in searing heat and I'm sure all the dancers are really tired. Big day but the routines are going to be epic.”

Clifton joked that he once was able to perform after a night out but has struggled the older he has got.

He said: “When I was 22 I would be able to go out every night drinking and felt invincible and could always perform.

“Now I'm 35 I'm finding it increasingly important to eat right and sleep.”

Clifton and his estranged wife Karen recently announced that they will both return to Strictly Come Dancing despite calling time on their marriage earlier this year.

It was rumoured Karen was to swap the UK for the US for Dancing With The Stars, but it has now been confirmed by the BBC that both Karen and Kevin will return to the hit show for series 16 this autumn.

Karen is the longest-serving female professional on the show, having replaced Katya Virshilas in 2012, with Kevin joining the following year.
