Emma Watson’s new film made just £47 when it opened at the UK box office.

The Colony, co-starring Daniel Brühl, bombed during opening weekend after being released in just three cinemas.

Directed by Jeff Renfroe, the film was also released at the same time on video on demand, contributing to the abysmal cinema takings.

The film, about a young woman (Watson) who infiltrates a cult in Pinochet-era Chili to rescue her abducted boyfriend, was first screened at Toronto last year.

After receiving mainly negative reviews, The Colony opened in the US earlier this year, making £15,709.

The film has gained little exposure in the UK, with none of the cast doing interviews or press to promote the release.

Al Pacino’s latest film Misconduct suffered a similar fate at the UK box office last month, making just £97 in its opening week.

The Shintaro Shimosawa-directed film only opened in five cinemas nationwide despite the starry cast, which included Anthony Hopkins.

According to Variety, Misconduct cost a staggering $11 million to make and had a similarly poor opening in the US back in February.

Keanu Reeves’ new film Exposed also made a measly £88 when it opened in cinemas back in March.

Watson is gearing up for the release of the Disney live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast, which will presumably enjoy slightly more success at the box office.
