Ed Sheeran had to push back the release of his album due to the fallout from the US Presidential elections.
The British pop star was all set to launch his new record back in November but had to postpone due to the ‘s*** storm of media’ that surrounded Donald Trump’s win.
“The plan was to come in September and then the album was meant to come in November but the week the album was coming out was the week the presidential elections that was just a s*** storm of media and I was, like, obviously if I come out with a record then no one’s going to care,” he told Zane Lowe on Beats 1.
Sheeran, who spent last year on a career hiatus following his world tour, then decided to hold off until other artists had dropped their new albums.

The singer went on to say that releasing the record in 2017 feels like the best thing to do as there is no one to compete against.

“It feels like a clean start this year though, like any time I've come out there’s always been, like another person.
“Remember the first year I came out, being nominated for every award but then Adele was nominated for every award and I’d kind of turn up like ‘Uh, yeah.’

“But this year it kind of feels like there’s no one there. I’m very, very confident in this year. This year is mine.”
Sheeran released two new singles at the beginning of the year, which have already stormed to the top of the charts.
His new album ÷ (Divide) will drop on March 3.
