Unlikely Strictly Come Dancing star Ed Balls has vowed to dance on and will not give way to better contestants.
The former Shadow Chancellor said he will let the public decide on whether he should remain on the hit TV show and has no intention of “doing a John Sergeant”.
The ex-political journalist famously quit the dancefloor in 2008 after the public repeatedly voted for him to stay, despite being the lowest scoring contestant.
Labour heavyweight Mr Balls has so far seen off top-of-the-leaderboard contestant, the model Daisy Lowe, despite his ungainly moves and nearly dropping his dance partner Kayta Jones in week six.

In an interview with the Radio 4 Today programme, Mr Balls said: “As it goes on in this competition, the dance becomes a bigger deal but in the end you’ve got to respect the voters.

He confirmed this Saturday’s dance will see him abseil into the Tower Ballroom at Blackpool at the start of his jive routine.
