Fortnite will add Sir David Beckham to its Icon Series on 18 July at 01:00 BST. The 51‑year‑old former England captain, who played for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy and Paris Saint‑Germain, will be offered as a playable skin for the game’s large Canadian audience and the wider global community.
Outfits and visual features
The trailer released on YouTube shows Beckham in his iconic number‑seven shirt, scoring a powerful goal before the camera cuts to his character watching the play. Two distinct outfits are highlighted. The first, called the “Club Owner” look, features a sharp black suit adorned with a club crest. The second presents a shirtless figure covered in glowing gold tattoos across the arms, torso, neck and hands; the tattoos react and illuminate with each elimination.
Players will also be able to perform a “Shot Emote” that mimics Beckham’s famous free‑kick technique, often described as “Bend it like Beckham”. Additional equipment includes the Meteor Baller Pickaxe, marketed as delivering “the perfect strike”, and a Number Seven Scythe Pickaxe.
Beckham’s involvement and background
Beckham confirmed the partnership on Instagram, sharing a behind‑the‑scenes glimpse of the design process. He has not previously collaborated with Fortnite, though other footballers such as Lionel Messi, Harry Kane and Marco Reus have featured in the game.
Beyond Fortnite, Beckham’s gaming résumé includes multiple appearances in EA’s FIFA series. His football career spanned two decades, making him the first English player to win league titles in four different countries – England, Spain, the United States and France. His stint with the LA Galaxy helped raise his profile among North American sports fans.
Beckham, married to former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, is father to four children: Romeo, Cruz, Harper and Brooklyn.
The addition of Beckham’s likeness follows Fortnite’s continued popularity in Canada, where the title consistently ranks among the most‑played games.
