Danny Boyle has confirmed that four of the main characters from Trainspotting are on board for the film’s sequel.

The award-winning director has admitted that the stars of the 1996 cult hit are keen to shoot a follow up, but are having difficulties with scheduling conflicts.

He told Deadline: “All the four main actors want to come back and do it.

“Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series.”

Jonny Lee Miller, who played Sick Boy in the original film, is currently starring as Sherlock Holmes in US show Elemenetary.

Robert Carlyle, who starred as character Begbie, is also over in the US shooting Once Upon A Time.

“I’ve said that to Danny. Everybody has talked about it and speculated about it, but I don’t if it’s happening yet. I’ve not seen a script and I don’t know if there is one. It’s been a long, long time.”

The sequel will be based on Irvine Welsh’s 2002 Porno and has been written by John Hodge, who wrote the screenplay for the first film.
