Daisy Ridley has confirmed she is in talks to play Lara Croft in the hotly anticipated Tomb Raider film.

Ridley, 23, said there “have been conversations” about her taking over the role from Angelina Jolie, but that she had not yet been offered the part.

“I’m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it',” she told The Hollywood Reporter at the Empire Film Awards.

When asked if she would be available to play the part alongside her role as Rey in the Star Wars franchise, she replied: “Absolutely, I’m trying to fill up my calendar.”

The actress has the backing of her Star Wars co-star John Boyega who admitted he has tipped her for the role.

“I played Tomb Raider the game, it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version,” he said. “But I texted Daisy [and] was like, ‘this is you!’ and ‘you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’ She should be."

The new film is expected to follow the story of the Tomb Raider games.

Ridley and Boyega were honoured with the Best Female and Male Newcomer gongs at the Empire Film Awards which also saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens take home five awards.
