Prague astronomical clock honoured in Google Doodle for 605th anniversary

Prague's astronomical clock, the oldest working clock of its kind, has been honoured by internet giant Google today with a Google Doodle to mark its 605th anniversary.

The medieval tourist attraction, found in the Old Town Square in the capital, is latest Doodle to appear on the search engine's homepage.

Google said: "Today’s Doodle honors a magnificent achievement in medieval engineering and a cultural landmark whose symbolism, design, and intermittent repairs are a remarkable catalogue of Europe’s past."

Google Doodle began in 1998 when founders Sergei Brin and Larry Page visited the Burning Man festival and switched the iconic logo as a light-hearted out of office message.

The first animated Doodle of an apple falling from a tree was created in January 2010 to mark the anniversary of Sir Isaac Newton's birth while Pac-Man became the first interactive logo in May 2010.

Google Doodles are created by a team of 10 including engineers and designers from Google HQ in California with designs planned 18 months in advance.
