A man suffering from a vomiting bug was found to have a tapeworm measuring more than six metres growing in his stomach.

The 38-year-old visited a doctor in Shiyan, China, after suffering from weakness, abdominal pain and extreme weight loss for three days.

The man, who gauged on raw beef, told medics he had been suffering from stomach aches and chronic anaemia over the past two years.

The New England Journal of Medicine reported the man underwent a physical examination which was “largely unremarkable”.

But after examining his stools under a microscope, doctors found a tapeworm egg.

The patient was treated with several oral drugs before he excreted the huge tapeworm two-and-a-half hours later.

It is thought the man’s poor diet caused the Taenia saginata – beef tapeworm – infection.

Three months later, the man was no longer experienced any ailments and regained weight as well as he appetite.
